Myths - Why use a Travel Agent
Published Tuesday, December 29th 2009 - Updated Tuesday, December 29th 2009Myth: It is more expensive to book travel through a Travel Agent… … And 9 other reasons to use a Travel Agent
- Travel Agents see the same rates as the agents at the Cruise and Tour Companies. But more importantly, in addition, they also have access to unique rates, such as exclusive group fares, regional specials and other special rate programs. An Agent can also tell you which option is the best value, it’s not always enough to just compare price.
- A Tour Company, Cruise Line or Hotel Agent may be an expert on their specific product and will do their best to sell it to you, but it may not be the best fit for your needs and interests. A Travel Agent can recommend the best fit for you.
- You may be able to find a “cheap” price from one of the online discount travel sites, but you may find that the ocean view room you booked is really looking at the parking lot. Unless, that is, you lean way over the railing and crane your neck for a glimpse of your ocean view. Or, how about the romantic weekend away you had planned at a resort with one pool that happens to be filled with screaming kids. A Travel Agent can help you avoid situations like this.
- If you are traveling to a new destination you may not be aware of some key information. A Travel Agent can warn you not to wear camouflage in Barbados because it is illegal. Or, not to go to Rio in August if you want to sunbathe because it will be winter time.
- A Travel Agent will remember to take care of all the small details so that you won’t arrive in Costa Rica at 2am and be unable to get to your hotel because there aren’t any cab drivers at the airport. Your Agent will have suggested pre-booking a transfer to your hotel.
- Have you ever googled “Mexico Vacation” to have millions of responses pop up? A Travel Agent can help you narrow the options based on your desires.
- A Travel Agent will be your personal advocate if something goes wrong. Rather than spending hours of your own time on the phone to resolve an issue, your Agent can do this on your behalf and will often have better results. After all, you are one customer and an Agent represents many potential customers.
- A Travel Agent is one-stop shopping. With one phone call your entire vacation can be planned; from your accommodations and rental car to entertainment and excursions. The same itinerary would take you many phone calls for the same results.
- A Travel Agent will save you time, allowing you more free time and less stress.
- Lastly, Travel Agents are experts in what they do. They have the current knowledge to navigate the many choices available and stay up to date on new information and pricing trends.
